How many carbs should I eat a day or should I switch to a ketosis diet?

I did this for a really, really long time. I would survive on no carbs at all. (It’s called a “ketosis” diet where you restrict carbohydrates to lose weight.) You do see results from that…you get pretty quick results from not eating carbs. But let me telling you what happens later, when you add carbs back into your diet.

So I was losing weight on a ketosis, restricted carbohydrate diet. I avoided all carbs. Honestly, I felt my body shutting down. Your brain needs carbs to think properly. I felt something was wrong so I put 2 + 2 together.

After not having the right amount of carbs in my body for so long, my brain felt fuzzy, like I wasn’t thinking clearly. I figured out that I had to add carbohydrates back into my diet.

But as soon as I did—I had problems, big problems. My body had been starving without the carbs for so long, it never knew when it was going to get carbs. When I started eating, good healthy complex carbs, I swear to you, I gained like 40 pounds. It felt like I put on all that weight overnight. My body had been so deprived, it was trying to hold it all in and store the carbs. I ballooned up in two months.

Where I am now, I just live a healthy lifestyle and I cut out no food groups. Lesson learned the hard way.

So my answer is: “I just eat a lot of carbs a day.” But they are mostly all from vegetables. I do recommend:

  • any flash frozen Steam Fresh vegetable from Birds Eye
  • sweet potatoes
  • Butternut & spaghetti squash
  • brown rice
  • oatmeal
  • whole wheat pasta
  • Ezekiel or whole wheat bread
  • nuts: pumpkin and sunflower seeds, walnuts, pecans

So to answer the ketosis question, “I do not recommend it.”

You will get good results in the short term but long term, it destroys your body. It’s not worth it. Take the extra time to lose the weight. Eat all three food groups.

  • You’ll feel better, feel good.
  • Your brain will function better & you won’t feel like a zombie
  • It’s good for your body and health.

As soon as you cut carbohydrates out of your diet, you will be

  • Irritable
  • Feel kind of crazy
  • Get crazy cravings
  • Makes your brain feel weird

Keep those carbs in your diet. Don’t cut them out. It may take a couple of extra weeks to reach that goal. But trust me, in the long run it’s worth it.
