We all try to function on no sleep, but it always comes back to bite us in the booty, right?  I struggled to fall asleep and stay asleep for many years, before I discovered these 5 steps:

Same bedtime every night

Getting to bed at the same time every night will help you establish a sleep routine.  With time, this helps your body feel tired, an hour or two before your regular bedtime.

Unplug

When we watch TV, or use our smartphones before bed, it keeps our brain alert, so it is harder to fall asleep.  Try avoiding screen time an hour or two before bed.

Dim Lights

Same idea as your TV or smartphone, when you keep all your lights on in the evening, your brain stays active longer because it thinks it is still day time.  Try dimming your lights an hour or two before bedtime, to help your brain slow down and feel tired.

Lower heat in bedroom

Your body will have a hard time falling and staying asleep if your house, or bedroom, is too warm.  Turns out our bodies associate warmth with the rising of the sun (daytime), and associates a decrease in temperature with dusk and rest.  Try turning down your thermostat a few degrees in the bedroom, or investing in fan, or air conditioner for your bedroom.
