You Need A Why
So far, you’ve set a list of awesome goals, so you must be ready to kick butt, right? — Almost. Before you go out and set sail with your list of goals, you need to know your “Why”. What’s the why that’s going to push you to do it? When times get hard; or when you’re up all hours of the night; or when you have to get up early to go to the gym to lose that 30 pounds that you want to lose, what’s going to push you to get there?
Your why is that deeper meaning, right? All of us could say: “I want to lose 30 pounds because I want to look good in a bathing suit by summertime.” But at 5:00 in the morning, when it is time to get up to go to the gym you’re probably going to think: “forget that bathing suit. I don’t care about that bathing suit” right?
What is that reason that’s going to push you, and pull you towards your goal and get you excited about it? Is it certain diseases your family struggles with that you want to avoid? Is it something financial that is going to bring better opportunities to your family?
What is that reason for you that’s going to push you when you don’t feel like doing it, or when it gets really hard. What is that motive that will help you continue when you are wondering: “Why am I doing this?”
We can’t rely on a physical, external reason like “good looks” to help us push forward during those tough times. It is not strong enough, right? We need an internal reason, like wanting to feel more confident – feel healthier – and have more quality time with the ones we love, to keep moving forward. What is that reason for you? What is your big purpose to doing this?
Your Why Should Make You Cry
Your Why should be so emotional and powerful for you, that it almost makes you cry. Do you want to make more money, or travel more, or be able to go and give back to your community? Do you want to help build a school, a library, or a hospital? What is that why for you? What is the thing that would make everything fall into place.
Your why has to be really, really, strong. So take a minute. Write it down in your journal. What is your why for each of those life categories?
Remember why you’re doing this. It’s not to look good in a bathing suit. It’s not to just lose weight. It has a deeper, more valuable meaning, that will help you push towards that goal.
Make sure you check in tomorrow.
