What Is A Cheat Meal?
At the beginning of my journey, I remember seeing cheat meals all over Instagram, and I was like: “I don’t get it. Like, what is a cheat meal?”
So, a cheat meal, or a free meal, is basically an entrée and a dessert, of your choosing, that you have in the same sitting, once a week. For me, it’s pizza and ice cream. That is my favorite. It is those foods that you have a hard time letting go of, or saying no to when you are trying to eat healthy. So why once a week? Because if you want to actually be healthy from the inside out, you can’t be eating junk all the time.
How A Cheat Meal Once A Week Can Actually Help You Lose Weight?
If you eat healthy all week, your body gets used to it, and eventually it doesn’t have to work as hard to burn it off. It gets really easy for your body to burn your vegetables, and salads, and lean proteins and stuff like that, right? So, your metabolism gets a bit slow and lazy.
But, when you have this cheat meal once a week, let’s say it is pizza and ice cream, your body has to ramp up its metabolism, and kick start your digestive system to burn it off. It actually creates a change in your body. It’s basically a way to break a pattern in your body and keep your metabolism on its toes. So, it becomes really important for you to have this cheat meal, so your body doesn’t plateau.
Having One Cheat Meal Per Week, Will Help You Fix Your Cravings
You don’t have to spend every day eating chicken and broccoli for the rest of your life. You can still have that food that you love, but you need to schedule it. It needs to be that one time a week, and not every single day anymore, right?
I used to sit in front of the TV and eat ice cream every single night. That’s not okay. So have this cheat meal, have fun with it, and go all out. You can have your huge bowl of pasta at Buca di Beppo, and eat breads. You can have anything that you want for your cheat meal. It’s funny though, because my eyes are so much bigger than my stomach. Every week I’m like: “I’m going to eat the whole pizza by myself” and then I eat like a piece and half, and I’m like: “Oh my gosh. I can’t eat pizza like I used to.”
What you will also notice, is how different your body feels after eating a cheat meal, vs. after eating healthy food. It will start to make your stomach hurt and turn over. You almost won’t even want to eat cheat meals anymore.
Then you realize: “How did I eat this food every day?” Right? How did my body even operate correctly? How was I even getting out of bed when I was dealing with all these stomach problems all the time?
Bottom line is have that cheat meal. Have fun with it. Go all out. Have the big frickin ice cream sundae, as much as your eyes want, and I bet you probably won’t even be able to finish it, just like me. But have that meal. It’s really, really, really important for your results, and for your success along your weight loss journey.
